Lower Primary (5-8 years)

A drama class for students aged five to eight years.

Young children are natural performers, full of energy, imagination, and creativity. At our drama classes for lower primary children, we celebrate these qualities and provide a safe and supportive environment for our students.

We believe that every child has something unique to offer, and we encourage children to express themselves in their own way. Whether they’re shy or outgoing, our experienced teachers help children build their confidence and develop important social skills.

Through drama, young children can learn how to communicate effectively, work together, and express themselves creatively. They can explore their imaginations, develop their language skills, and build their self-esteem. Drama classes are not just about acting – they offer a range of benefits that can positively impact a child’s development.

In our lower primary drama classes, we believe in developing a love of learning and creativity. We provide a fun and engaging environment where children can learn through play and exploration.

Our specially written curriculum and specialist teacher training ensures our students have a balanced, fun-filled lesson every week. Although the structure remains the same each week, each lesson is different and, with the different age groups offered, a child can join the Academy at five years of age and stay until they are 18 without ever repeating a lesson.

Why do drama classes matter?

Drama classes are not just about performing on stage. They offer a range of benefits that can positively impact a child’s development.

Drama Kids: Developing confidence, communication and creativity

CONFIDENCE

Drama classes provide a space for children to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them. This helps to build their confidence and self-esteem, which can translate into other areas of their lives.

COMMUNICATION

Drama classes help children learn how to express themselves clearly and effectively. They learn how to listen to others and respond appropriately, as well as how to use body language and tone of voice to convey meaning. The students will learn to work as a team, including how to compromise, work together and support each other.

CREATIVITY

Drama classes encourage children to think outside the box and explore their imaginations. They learn how to create characters, develop storylines, and use props and costumes to bring their ideas to life

Benefits of our Programme

In 1979 Helen O’Grady, a trained drama teacher and actress, recognised a need for young children to develop their confidence and self-esteem and to improve their verbal communication skills.

Now, many years later, when we all rely so much on technology and communicate mostly through messages, emails and social media, that need has never been greater.

Our fun-packed lessons, for all age groups, instil, firstly in children, the beauty of the spoken word. They enable young people to have something to say, the confidence to say it and the creativity to make it interesting.

Ongoing attendance in the programme develops individuals at their own rate, in so many ways and allows them to carry their new found skills seamlessly into ‘real life’. There is no doubt it is the confident, well-spoken and interesting candidate who will impress the panel/ the school board/ the interviewers/ the audience. These are skills which can be learnt and learnt while having fun and making new friends.
